It's Valentine's Day, again.
The time of year when lovers scurry to get the perfect gift or plan the perfect event that expresses they are "in" love. As Hallmark and Godiva's cash registers overheat with sales, champagne bottles and roses are being delivered around the world.
It's interesting how, as a culture, we set one day aside to show how much we love others.
Can you imagine what life would be like, if instead of showing we are "in" love, we would simple "be" love?
If we allowed ourselves to just be love, this is how the world would look:
Lovers would focus on the best in each other, every day of the year.
The evening news would be a repetitive listing of good deeds the world over.
Competition would become cooperation.
Teachers would draw forth the inherent excellence within every student.
Israel would be borrowing a cup of sugar from their great neighbors the Palestinian's
Hierarchy would transition into equality.
Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhist and atheists would joyfully teach others their beliefs.
Parents would encourage their children's individuality.
Courts would become a place of apologies and reconciliation.
The military would turn into a global welcome wagon.
Greed would give way to caring and sharing.
Instead of 7 continents with hundreds of countries, we would all be citizens of our one Earth.
Political bipartisanship would turn into cooperation invested in the greater good of all.
Weapons would be recycled into park benches.
Traffic jams would turn into street parties.
Self-righteous judgments would be replaced with gratitude for diversity.
Hate and fear would offer opportunities for love and understanding.
Condemnation would give way to unity.
Instead of man-made laws we would need only uphold the laws of nature.
Violence will give way to friendship.
Instead of bullying we will practice kindness.
Laughter will replace the cries of hungry children.
Common sense will abolish the need for control.
Past wars will be forgotten and forgiven, for we knew not what we were doing.
Peace will be the new normal.
Respect would be a given.
Fun the result.
And Joy the world's anthem.
In this new world, which is being co-created as we speak, we choose to celebrate our differences by acknowledging our sameness, for after all, we are all the individualized expression of the One Source of All that is - Love!
